On this two day tour to Meteora, we visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos.
The six monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area.
We can also visit six old ruined monasteries and more Archaeological sites such as the Byzantine Church of Virgin Mary and the Prehistoric Cave of Theopetra.
Meteora is located near the town of Kalambaka at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and the Pindus Mountains. Besides visiting the Monasteries, tourists can also hike the area or climb the rocks, among various other activities.
