Corinth was a powerful city-state on the Isthmus of Corinth, the narrow strip of land joining the Peloponnese to mainland Greece, roughly midway between Athens and Sparta.

Since 1896, systematic archaeological investigations have revealed large parts of the ancient city. For Christians, Corinth is especially important from Saint Paul's letters in the New Testament and its mention in the Book of Acts during his missionary travels.

The city was protected by the fortress of Acrocorinth overlooking the urban area. You will also see the remains of the Temple of Apollo, one of the best examples of early Doric temple architecture in the Greek world, and visit the museum with finds from the excavations, including notable Roman artifacts and a remarkable floor mosaic of Dionysus.
