Visit the sacred site where the Olympic Games were born and explore one of the most important sanctuaries of antiquity.
In this full-day tour, we travel back in time to Ancient Olympia, where the Olympic Games were held every four years from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.
The sanctuary of Olympia is located in Elis on the Peloponnese peninsula and is one of Greece's most significant archaeological destinations. This is the place where the Olympic Games were celebrated for over a thousand years.
Within the sacred enclosure (temenos), the Altis contains major monuments including the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Zeus, the Pelopion, and the altar area where sacrifices were performed. To the north stand the Prytaneion and the Philippeion, with treasuries from various city-states nearby.
Further across the site, you will encounter the Metroon, Echo Stoa, hippodrome and stadium areas, as well as the South Stoa, Bouleuterion, Palaestra, workshop of Pheidias, Gymnasium, and Leonidaion. This tour offers a deep and memorable look into the spirit of ancient athletics and religion.
